So I was reading the anthology of On the Hunt. In the story, Ever Night
by Gena Showalter, we have the story of Vasili and Rose. Rose is a
Walker who can travel between world, mostly just on her birthday. On the
night of her 18th birthday, she travels to the Nightmare realm, as it
is called and is brought forth to meet Vasili. Vasili is a king whose
family was killed when past walkers came and started killing people.
Only he and his brother are the sole survivors. Upon their meeting, they
are both wary of each other. He decides that she will be useful if she
can get him information about other walkers. He then does something that
cements their bond and sends her along.
I really enjoyed this short novella. It had everything you could ask for. Love, action, betrayal and happiness. At first I didn't know what to make of the story. I had previously read 2 of her other series and thoroughly enjoyed the empowerment of women who wouldn't let men cow them done. It wasn't so much in the beginning but towards the end she becomes as fierce a fighter as Vasili, both fighting for what they both know that they need to accomplish. A way to stop walkers from attacking and finding a way to get acceptance for her and her kind, which they end up accomplishing.
